The Grammy Award-winning duo For King and Country ends its music video for “God Only Knows” with the number of the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.

The video begins and ends on a dark, rain-soaked bridge, with a young woman driven to the railing by despair but ultimately finding hope and a reason to rip up that goodbye note she planned to leave behind. The lyrics speak to people who have disappeared inside themselves, hiding their scars and their struggles.

The meditative, rock-tinged song addresses issues of suicide and mental illness with words of support and compassion. And the parting thought is that healing is a group effort: “Love and Listen. We need each other.”

Luke Smallbone says he and his brother and band mate, Joel, are simply reaching out to others struggling with personal demons, letting them know it’s okay to seek help.

“A lot of times you can’t see the pains going on in their mind,” Luke says of those suffering from depression or thoughts of suicide.

The potentially life-saving message of “God Only Knows” seems to be getting through. At its release, the song peaked at No. 2 on the U.S. Hot Christian Songs chart. The music video ends with the lifeline number and the message: “Love and Listen. We need each other.”
